Event Description
The Death of Usability and Other Peeks at the Future
Recent changes in interactive aren't just variations on the same old themes--they're actually the first signs of a different world. Some of these changes are defensive and reactionary (Agile); some are progressive (the iPad and the App Store); and some are inevitable (the death of usability; the birth of the Age of Abundance). Based on some of the ideas he has encountered during his dissertation research, Troy Winfrey will sketch out some likely paths for user experience in the next five years.
After Troy's talk we'll reserve some time for discussion, and/or time for anyone who's working on a project to bring any questions or problems to the group for brainstorming.
We're working on finding sponsors for upcoming events but in the meantime we would much appreciate a $5 donation to defray refreshment costs.

No problem. I also found a plug-in that lets us manage our events calendar including registration... Events manager. Over the next week, I'll get the basic site up and running with these two plug ins. Biggest logistical challenge will be creating the users on the new site based on this site's list... everyone will have to create new passwords, but I hope we can bring all the other data across. Then, I may need help with customizing the theme from one of you brilliant visual designers out there.

Impulsively, I just registered BaltimoreParlay.net for 5 years. Consider it donated to the group. I'll even get a blank WordPress installation set up. If we decide not to go this route, we can transfer the domain name to the new mechanism.

I'd be happy to host a WordPress site on my host account (I already host 3, including my own, and I've had the host for 9+ years). The only cost would be registering a domain name.

How about Groupsite? I work with a couple of groups that use it and it's pretty close to Ning--and a local company (Columbia)! Their basic model is free and may provide what we need, depending on what pricing model Ning decides on.

We might want to add to the housekeeping agenda the discussion point of whether we're going to keep this site on Ning or migrate it elsewhere, given the new Ning pricing model about to be introduced:
